To My Big Sister, From Your Little Brother

I love to watch you play big kid games. You and your friends tower over me, and you can do so many things. Running, hitting, jumping and passing. I want to be just like you one day, so I throw the ball as hard as I can. I’m still just a little kid and it doesn’t go far, but maybe one day…

a letter from a little brother

I love to jump on your back when you’re sitting down doing big kid stuff. You’re so tall and strong, and you can walk for a long time once you stand up. I want to be just like you one day, so I run as fast and as far as I can. I’m still just a little kid and I get tired way before you, but maybe one day…

I love to watch you climb big kid trees. You can go so high up in the branches I can barely see you. I want to be just like you one day, so I try to climb as high as I can. I’m still just a little kid so I don’t get very far up before I get scared, but maybe one day…

I love to sit next to you when you’re reading your big kid books. They’re so big with so many words, but sometimes you tell me all about your stories. I want to be just like you one day, so I grab my board books and sit next to you on the couch. I’m still just a little kid so I can’t read like you, but maybe one day…

from your little brother

Someday I’ll be able to play games like you, to run like you, to climb like you and to read like you. Someday I’ll be big and strong, and I’ll be the big kid.

But right now I’m just a little kid. The little kid trailing behind, but never left alone.

Even when you’re busy with your team, you always look over and smile when I shout your name.

Even though you’re so much faster than me, you always offer to hold my hand and walk at my pace.

Even though you can climb so high, you always come back when I get scared and need help getting down.

Even though you like to read your own books, you always offer to read mine when I crawl in your lap.

Someday I’ll be the big kid, too. But until then, I’m awfully thankful I have a big kid like you to look up to.

Love,
