I See You, Baby
“Hey Mom, watch me!”
I see you, baby.
I see your huge grin and your flashing dimples.
I see you pushing boundaries.
I see you doing what the big kids do.
I see you watching and learning and trying and growing.
And I see your absolute certainty that nothing will hurt you.
Because right here and right now, that’s what you’re supposed to feel.
You’re supposed to be sure that I’ll catch you if you fall. You’re supposed to know that worries are for me and testing limits is for you. You’re supposed to leap into adventure, spread your wings, and conquer those mountains.
Now, don’t get me wrong, things aren’t always perfect.
You’ll have your fair share of skinned knees, head bumps and timeouts. You’ll cry when you don’t get your way and you’ll yell when you think it will help.
We’ll go around a few times while you’re testing those limits.
But today you’re free to BE because I see you, baby.
There will come a day when you’ll need to know that snakes could be hiding where you least expect them.
There will come a day when you’ll need to check to see how deep you may go before you commit to the jump.
There will come a day when you’ll need to know that the pretty surface could be hiding a muck that sucks you down and tries to keep you there.
But today – today is not that day. Today you only need to know one thing.
“Hey Mom, watch me!”
I see you, baby.
