Beyond the Manger
I’m always trying to find ways to help my kids see the true meaning of Christmas – beyond all of the gifts, decorations, fancy food, etc. Which, if I’m being honest, it pretty difficult since I actually LIKE all of the gifts, decorations, fancy food, etc.
I like watching Elf and Home Alone, and I enjoy finding that one gift that will make someone’s face light up.
However, it’s also true that inevitably by the end of Christmas I’m just grateful it’s all over and I don’t have to do it again for another 12 months.
That’s not the attitude I really want – especially as we move into this 2020 Christmas season.
I would much rather approach this Christmas with a clear eye on WHO we’re celebrating rather than on all the extras. (Not to say we’re not doing a lot of the extras, too! )
Something different this year
So, in order to try to focus attention where it needs to be, I got together with some friends and created something a little different this year.
Beyond the Manger
Beyond the Manger is a series of recorded sessions of women discussing the different names of Jesus.
I’ve studied the names of God many times (I especially like Tony Evans’s book, The Power of God’s Names if you’re looking for something about that), but I’ve never really looked at the Names of Jesus.
Beyond the Manger is divided up into six sessions, with 15 women speaking on some of the different names Jesus was called. We talk about Jesus as Immanuel, as Wonderful Counselor, as Prince of Peace. We talk about Him as the Lamb, the Resurrection and the Word, and many more. There is also praise and worship music, as well as questions for reflection.
2020 has been just…weird…and kind of awful sometimes. So if you’re looking for something to take your eyes off your circumstances, I encourage you to give this a shot.
The event officially launches in a live stream on December 5th, but you can access the recordings throughout the whole month of December – which is nice if you want to treat it as a video devotional.
You can read more about it and purchase access for an individual or group here. And you can use my name SANDRA for 10% off!
I hope you can make it!
Love,
Sandra
